Where to Find Fresh Hawaiian Kona Coffee

Most people who get their first sip of this type of coffee are forever hooked. Grown in Hawaii, Kona coffee has a unique balance that is simply unbeatable. True coffee lovers know, and have known for a long time, that one of the best and most flavorful coffee in the world is Kona coffee, made from beans that are grown in Northern slopes of Hawaii and Oahu.

Purchasing fresh, gourmet Kona coffee will result in the best cup of coffee that’s ever hit your palate. Although Kona coffee is higher priced than other coffee blends, it is definitely worth the price. After all, people from around the globe buy this particular type of coffee. The climate, which is made up of beautiful bright mornings and humid afternoons, is perfect for growing unique flavorful coffee.

The tree on which fresh, gourmet Kona coffee beans grow actually came from cuttings out of Brazil. In the 1800’s, Hawaii saw Samuel Reverend Ruggles bring the first try of it’s kind to the island. Discovering that the weather and soil in Hawaii produced great crops, farmers begin growing the beans on large plantations. The best estimate is that 2,300 acres of land are now devoted to the growing of Kona coffee beans. Because the creation of Kona coffee beans is such a success, roughly two million pounds are produced annually.

The tiny white blossoms of the Kona tree make their appearance in February and March each year and are known locally as Kona Snow. Then small green berries pop up by early spring; However, by mid-summer they have already turned to a ruby red fruit and exhibit similar qualities to ripe cherries. It is a right time for the “fruit” to be harvested. By hand-picking every coffee bean, the freshness of gourmet Kona coffee is ensured.

Within 24 hours of the fruit being harvested it is put through an apparatus that separates the pulpy matter from the bean itself. After that, the beans are allowed to ferment for 12 hours at low elevation and 24 hours at higher elevation. After rinsing, the beans are spread out on a type of drying rack to dry out completely, which usually takes one to two weeks. After this, parchment is used for the storage of the dry beans. Interesting enough, about eight pounds of fruit only produces one pound of Kona coffee’s freshest gourmet coffee.

Knowing the categorization of coffee beans is significant while choosing fresh gourmet Kona coffee. For instance, Type I has two beans per cherry or fruit, with one side being flat and one being oval. Type II beans are just one, round bean per cherry or fruit. After that, the beans undergo further grading based on several criteria, including size, type, bean moisture levels and purity. With fresh, gourmet Kona coffee, you know you are purchasing a higher quality or grade of the Kona bean.

5 Tips from a San Diego Wedding Photographer

Being asked to be the photographer for a wedding is a big responsibility. If you’ve been approached to do it as a friend, or maybe asked to do it as a professional, here are 5 great tips to do the job right.

This tips are coming from first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. You could be a seasoned pro, or you could be an amateur, but by following these tips, you will do the job smoothly without second guessing yourself. You will be ready for whatever may happen.

Our first tip is easy and that is to have the couple and maybe their families make a list of photos they want to take. With a day that can be as hectic and chaotic as a wedding day, doing this will help when you are trying to organize all the group and family shots later on in the day.  You will love it and when you can just go down the list and get everything without leaving anything out by accident.

The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots.  In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do.Don’t bother even peeking at the previews. What you think may be a great photo, can differ widely in what the couple considers a great photo.  And who knows, they might appreciate the so called un “professional” shots.

The third tip to make sure you do is taking candid shots.A good wedding photographer doesn’t look to just take your typical shots, like group shots, or wedding shots or your standard newly married shots.  But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there. It could include things that don’t go perfectly, like a flower girl not wanting to walk down the aisle or the ring bearer making a wrong turn.Every picture counts.

The fourth piece of advice is make sure you have back up equipment.Do you even want to think of a moment like that of not having a working camera halfway through the wedding.Plan for the worst that could go wrong.  Being prepared will help you avoid that uncomfortable moment of not having a working camera to capture the rest of the day.

Finally, practice your lighting as well. There can be a huge difference between the lighting inside the wedding and outside, so make sure to practice for all the different possible conditions. Think about seeing if you can go to the locations of the big day and look for the best spots to take pictures as well as study the lighting needs.

Taking these 5 tips into account will help you immensely.  It will prepare you for whatever might go wrong, it will prepare you for capturing what goes right, and it will prepare you to help contribute to this wonderful day by being the best photographer you can be.  Take it from my years of experience as a San Diego photographer.

Finding A Low Oxidization Tea?

We may not think much about tea but an amazing amount of tea is drunk each day and it is second only to coffee for the number of people who drink it and for thousands of years it has remained so.

Tea is normally purchased already prepared in one of two ways and these are loose tea which is normally packed in foil and sold by the packet and you also have tea bags which contain enough tea for one cup in a perforated bag. To make a drink of tea either the tea bag or loose tea must be placed in boiling water for an appropriate period of time which all depends on how strong a flavour you want your cuppa to taste..

There are several different processes and types of tea and it is this which gives each tea their distinctly different tastes but it is also dependant on the specific variety of tea plant grown and the area of the world where it was cultivated.

There are several regions of Asia where where tea has been grown for many centuries and many of these areas suit the growth of the tea leaves perfectly due to their warm and rainy summers together with the areas being at higher altitudes which the tea plant is suited to.

It was the Chinese who first developed tea and they still produce huge quantities but around the world there are other countries looking to increase their exports from agriculture with similar conditions and climate increasingly growing tea for home consumption and export.

The way tea is classified is usually by the type of processing carried out and there are basically four types which are white, green, black and oolong
there will be variations of flavor caused by the type of tea plant grown and the region of the world where it grew.

To produce the tea leaves we all know a selection of whole tea leaves from a specific region will be selected
after which the oxidization processing begins and since oxidization is the deciding factor this will determine the type of tea produced.

You will see many types of tea in the stores but the truth is that there are only four main types of tea and for the least amount of oxidation try white tea with green tea coming next on the list.

The last of the four are the oolong tea but if you are looking for the highest levels of oxidization go for the red or black tea which completes the list of the four types of tea which tea suppliers use to blend together and produce their different brands of tea.

Medicinal Properties Of Common Natural Herbs

Natural herbs are commonly supposed to have two uses, culinary and medicinal. This is correct to a greater extent, however, as the definition of the difference between herbs and spices and herbs is that a herb has healing quality whereas spices lack this quality of healing. Therefore, it follows that there are significant health benefits to cooking with natural healing herbs. In this article, we will look at some of these benefits.

Preparing Natural Herbs for Cooking

The first thing that needs to be said is that fresh, natural herbs beat dried or frozen herbs every time, in terms of both flavor and healing properties. It would be considered best of all if you can grow them by yourself in your own herb garden. Herbs should be thoroughly washed and dried before use. If you are using a large quantity of natural herbs, treat them as you would salad greens, washing them under running water and drying them in a salad spinner.

Fresh natural herbs should be finely chopped or minced (unless the recipe dictates otherwise) and added to the meal shortly before it finishes cooking. Overcooking natural herbs can lessen the flavor and remove valuable nutrients.

Medicinal Properties of Common Natural Herbs

Now we turn to the health benefits of some of the natural herbs most commonly used in cooking. Dill is rich in dietary fiber and calcium. It is also a digestive aid and appetite stimulant. The emperor Charlemagne used to provide it at his banquet table for the benefit of guests who had eaten too much.

Parsley is a natural contraceptive. It stimulates blood flow around the uterus, causing contractions that fool the body into believing that it is already pregnant. For this reason, women keep away fresh parsley when they are trying to get pregnant, though small quantities of cooked parsley is suggested.

Rosemary contains vital antioxidants that can help to eliminate free radicals in the body, lowering the risk of cancer. It may also help relieve nasal congestion.

Oregano is a natural antiseptic and painkiller. The oil found in its leaves was historically used to treat pain and infections, being almost as powerful as morphine.

Basil, that other great standby of Mediterranean cookery, has antacid and anti-gas properties. It is also a mild sedative, so be wary of using fresh basil in breakfast and lunch dishes. At supper time, on the other hand, these sedative properties can be an advantage, as they will help you sleep when it’s time to go to bed.

These are just some of the health giving properties of natural culinary herbs. Taking your medicine has never tasted so delicious
