Delivering Your Drop – The Wine Delivery Process
Ordering wine over the internet is a very popular method of buying, whether its from an online store or auction house. Some people wonder what it had to go through to get to their door step.
Once your payment is received along with your details, everything kicks into action.
When your order is printed out, it is then submitted for the checking process. This is simply some checks to ensure that the company has it in stock and that the wine has been approved for commercial sale.
Once this check has passed, warehouse staff will then be given the order and will set off to locate the products in the store or warehouse. These are then carefully packed into specially designed delivery packs, minimising movement, allowing for maximum freshness and preventing breakage.
Your order then goes into the delivery area of the warehouse, where the designated transportation company will collect it. This usually occurs within hours, but can be longer depending of the amount of orders and if there is a backlog or the wine is out of stock.
The first leg of the delivery will be done by road, if you are in the same country, the whole trip will be done by road. If its leaving the country, your order will be going to a seaport or airport. A lot of the time which one it goes to will be determined by the amount of shipping paid on the order.
This step can be the longest part of the journey. If your order goes through the airport, it can take a while to make it onto a plane. With air transportation cutting weeks off the shipping time, it is a very popular choice. With so many parcels going via air, there is usually a backlog at the airport which will add a few days onto delivery.
Sending it to the seaport will usually have it on a boat within a day or two however, the trip itself will take weeks to complete.
Once its hit your shores it is then taken to a warehouse for processing. Sorting is usually complete in one to two days and is them released for delivery to your door.
