Don't Waste Your Food!

Householders who regularly waster food could be fined by their local council if the government goes ahead with a new plan that is to slash the amount of food being sent to landfills across the country. The Government is strongly thinking about using what is known as "Kitchen Caddies" so that any house is more than aware that they must make an effort to try and recycle. If a household is found dumping an awful lot of food into their usual bins then they could face a large fine.
It is predicted that British households throw away 4.1 million tonnes of food each year – The equivalent of £420 for every home. The majority of the food that is being thrown away is not being recycled and it is a major concern for government officials in the worlds push for a greener society. Currently, any business working in the food industry is expected to separate any food waste properly so why should any household be any different. corporate catering companies from around the country are expected to use appropriate methods in deposing waste food. The private catering and wedding caterers industry produces over 3 m tonnes of waste a year which is properly disposed of and now the Government want to emulate this routine by implementing the same strategy into the household.
The Government have also been carrying out research to ban specific products in landfills as it is harmful to the environment. Detailed research was carried out for the same bans in countries close by such as Austria, Germany and Holland. It showed that the amount of waste sent to landfill in from 27% to 1% after a landfill ban was introduced for some materials such as paper and card. This was along other methods to try and boost the awareness of recycling as much as possible.
Government representatives have been quoted as saying that the current recycling system needs a massive overhaul and we cannot just put anything into a landfill. There is no reason why we cannot use these dumped materials to make greener energy for everyone?

Catering for today's society

Catering group ‘Compass’ says corporate hospitality spending cutbacks, job losses among clients and shorter working hours have its business extremely hard.
The financial deparment has reported that they will only be making a megere 1% profit this year. This new release alone has sent its shares to plummet more than 7%. Since the economy has slowed up there has been a rapid decline in profit. They have performed events for such clients as Asda and Royal Mail in the past. It also operates its catering service in another 55 countries.
Wedding caterers across the country have reported some sort of loss over the last financial year due to complete un-predictability of the economy. Private catering has definitely changed forever as the Compass group alone have said that they have seen its Business & Industry and Sports & Leisure units hit by the recession. Compass did announce that they saw minor growth patterns emerging from their education, defence and healthcare divisions.
It is a shame but the smaller industries such as the catering indutry will be affected big time by this hard hitting economy as corporations will be looking to cut back as much spending as physically possible. Any other day this would be considered as a luxury however the current economic climate is preventing these kind of expenditures. Instead, companies are having to focus on keeping their businesses alive rather than spend out on un-necessary expenses. Unfortunately, there is no more lavish meals at the expense of the company!
I wouldn't get your hopes up about seeing a dramatic rise in the economy just yet as it is very early days. Company budgets are unfortunately going to be extremely tight for the foreseeable future and the catering industry could still suffer during this very hard time indeed.

bbq season approaches -5 tips to keep in mind

With alittle bit of luck we’ll get a scorcher of a summer so we can hit the beach, and also throw a bbq. We all love a bbq, but how can we make sure we all enjoy the event and make it go off smoothly?

  • Cook the meat all the way through. Its a simple point to remember, but most food poisoning cases occur at bbq when the meat wasnt done properly. Looks can be decieving, cut the meat to make sure that its not pink inside, and if it is put it back on the grill and cook it for abit longer. Also remember to defrost your meat in the fridge 24 hours before the bbq, or make sure your microwave has the defrost feature.
  • Never leave the grill on and unguarded. Leaving the grill unattended is stupid at best, as it can be knocked over or your drunk uncle may fall into it.
  • Dont use too much lighter fluid. yup, the giant flame is something to look at, but fire is unpredictable. Plus youll never need as much lighter fluid as you think.
  • Buy some vegetarian alternatives just in case. Its well known, Hitler was a vegetarian, and most of us will reach for the steak before we go for the salad, but are those vegetarian burgers arent really that abd. That way everyone can have something, plus lets face it, a burger just isnt a burger without some crisp lettuce. Allow the vegetables to compliment the meat, making it taste better and giving your plate abit of colour.
  • Be prepared. How many people will you need to buy food for, who has special dietry requirements, whats the weather going to be like on the day- being prepared for these things ensures your bbq will run more smoothly. Theres no point in stocking up on alcohol if everyones’ gonna be driving down, or doing it when its raining.

Dont fancy doing it yourself and want some outside catering for your bbq, or just private catering for a special event?
