The best thing about these cookers is that most (almost all) of them worked on electricity, so there was no flame required, and thus, keeping them running did not require special surveillance on the part of the homemakers. The main area where these cookers score above other kitchen equipment performing similar functions is that the food cooked in these cookers is not only more nutritious as compared to other devices, it is fresher and warmer too, when compared to food cooked in microwaves or ovens.
The reason why nutrition is preserved in food cooked using slow cookers is that the food is cooked using indirect heat from the heating elements, which builds up slowly. Thus, the food is cooked naturally, at an optimum pace, thereby providing the best in taste as well as health

Flavorful Onion and Vegetable-Cheese – Quick and Easy Soup Recipes
One of the easier ways to prepare a quick, nutritious, meal is to feature or start with soup. Here are a couple of soup recipes that are tasty, quick, and easy to prepare. The Flavorful Onion Soup is a perfect first course, goes great with a sandwich or can be served on its own with a plate of crusty breads, crackers, and/or cheese. The Vegetable-Cheese Soup can be prepared in a matter of minutes making it perfect for those very busy days.
CHEESE-BEAN CHOWDER
3 (15-oz each) cans navy beans*, drained
2 cups water
1 med onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
2 tsp instant beef bouillon granules
1/2 tsp dried basil, crushed
1 bay leaf
2 cups milk
1 jar (8-oz) pasteurized process cheese spread
minced fresh parsley for garnish, optional
White Sauce–List 2
1/3 cup sweet rice flour
4 Tablespoons butter or 1/4 cup oil
3 cups milk or milk substitute
List 3
5 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
In a stock pot or a large dutch oven combine the ingredients in the first list. Bring to a simmer and cook until the tomatoes are fork tender. Remove the bay leaves
Using a large strainer, strain the liquid into a large bowl. Put the chunks of tomato into a blender and blend until smooth. Strain the blended tomatoes to remove skins and seeds, into the bowl of liquid.
VEGETABLE-CHEESE SOUP
1 pkg (10-oz) frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
1 small onion, diced
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp Italian seasoning blend
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1tsp chicken-flavored bouillon granules
1 cup water
1 cup fat-free milk
1/4 cup shredded low-fat process American cheese
2 tsp Dijon mustard
Once the white sauce is incorporated into your tomato blend, keep it simmering. Allow it to thicken until it reaches your desired consistency. Adjust the level of sugar or salt to your own taste, and serve.
This gluten free tomato soup freezes well, and can be used in individual portions for lunches. It will hold in the freezer for at least six weeks. The quick and easy version of this soup recipe is available below

Fruits: Grapes and watermelon are high G.I fruits so limit these and avoid over ripe bananas, which have a higher G.I. Rating. Apples and pears with the skin, peaches, plums, mango and cherries are good choices for lower G.I fruits.
Vegetables: Most vegetables are low G.I, with the exception of peas, sweet corn and pumpkin so limit these. Beansprouts, tomatoes, courgettes and celery are very low G.I. And great for bulking your plates.

Chicken & Mushroom Curry
Serves 4 – 140 calories – 4g fat per portion
450g 1lb uncooked diced boneless chicken breast
2 tablespoons curry paste
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons curry powder
2 cloves garlic, crushed
336g (12oz) mushrooms, sliced
1 tablespoon flour to thicken
Salt to season
3/4 pint stock made with chicken stock cube
In a nonstick pan, dry fry the chicken, onion, garlic and mushrooms for about 5 minutes.
Once the juices start to flow add the curry powder and paste.
Stir well to ensure all the chicken and vegetables are coated with the spices.
Cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the stock, bring to the boil then turn down the heat.
Simmer for 35-45 minutes make sure the chicken is cooked through.
Mix the flour with a little water to form a paste and stir into the curry to thicken. Cook for a further 4-5 minutes until thick.

These are mixed together in a blender until smooth and can be enjoyed after minimal preparation. This drink contains only 180 calories and provides thirty percent of a person’s daily calcium needs. The reason you want to swirl is because your tongue has taste buds all over it in the front and back. Each set of taste buds will respond to different flavors. So to get the maximum flavor you have to use all of your taste buds and that’s why you swirl.

A range of tastes

Flavors range from the fruity notes of Ecuadoran chocolate, to spicy overtones in that from Trinidad and Tobago. Cacao from Madagascar tends to be citrus-scented and acidic. The Dominican Republic produces chocolate that is earthy and nutty-tasting.
Chocolate from Venezuela evokes dark, ripe fruit. Finally, Panama’s chocolate bears a classic cocoa flavor. Also unique from one growing area to the next is the way chocolate is consumed. In a large bowl, mix sugar and cocoa. Add whipping cream and vanilla to the mixture. Beat at medium speed, scraping bottom of bowl occasionally, until mixture is stiff. Pour in the gelatin mixture and beat until well blended. Spoon mousse into dessert dishes. Refrigerate about 30 minutes. Garnish with fresh berries before serving, if desired.
REALLY QUICK AND EASY HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE MALTED ICE CREAM SANDWICHES
Note: This is a “quick fix” recipe. However, the sandwiches do need at least 6 hours freezing time. This is a perfect make ahead recipe.
1/2 cup chopped malted milk balls
1 pint chocolate ice cream, softened
12 medium-size soft-style chocolate chip cookies
6 tbsp chocolate fudge ice cream topping.
Now, even though there are several benefits of dark chocolate, as with anything else, moderation is key. Make sure your chocolate delights fit into your daily caloric needs, and try to work your way up to the highest percentage dark chocolate you can enjoy.

Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas can refer to a couple of locations. I didn’t know this until my recent trip to Vegas. There is the PH resort hotel casino and there is also the PH restaurant. I recently checked out the restaurant which is located in the famous Forum Shops in Caesars Palace. Why they have the restaurant in another location is puzzling because the resort is definitely large enough to also have the restaurant.
In New England, our nearest restaurant location is in Boston. For me, raised in the suburbs of New Hampshire, Boston is something of a logistical nightmare to navigate with its one-way streets, traffic jams, parking nightmares, and outrageous prices. I wanted a special birthday for the man I love, however, so I swallowed my resistance and we headed off on the hottest day of the year for an afternoon of a Boston Harbor cruise followed by dinner reservations at Ruth’s Chris Steak House inside Boston’s old City Hall.
On your return trip, stop in Ansted and visit Hawk’s Nest State Park. The view is breathtaking and the hotel first class. I contend that there isn’t a more peacefully beautiful spot in the South.
Since we were hungry we decided to try two appetizers: the blackened shrimp and the Parmesan spinach dip with chips. I thought the blackened shrimp were excellent, but was disappointed in the dip which seemed too rich for my taste.
We placed our orders for steak and mashed potatoes, and sat back to thoroughly enjoy the delightful bread and butter. I also enjoyed the water immensely since the 100 degree weather of that hot August day had taken its toll in lost bodily fluid throughout the day. No doubt, I was definitely parched by the time we were seated, and had to restrain myself from guzzling 6 glasses of water immediately.
During the summer months, lunch and dinner can be eaten outside under a beautiful veranda that looks out over the Kanawha River and its falls. A popular site for weddings, it is always wise to call the Glen Ferris Inn for reservations.
